Carleton's Faculty of Public Affairs to Hold CU75 POPS: Water Challenge on World Water Day

Category: Investment, Water

March 20, 2017 (www.waternewswire.com) Carleton's Faculty of Public Affairs will host the final competition of CU75 Policy Options and Problem-Solving (POPS): Water – a student-led team challenge designed to encourage innovation and develop pathways to effect change in the community.

When: Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Rooms 2220-2224, Richcraft Hall (formerly River Building), Carleton University

Media are invited to the entire event. However, the best time to attend is 12:45 p.m. to 14:45 p.m. for the announcement of the undergraduate winners and graduate team presentations.

Two beautiful rivers flow through Ottawa, but when it rains, the rivers are filled with polluted water draining out of some of the older areas of the city. As a result, beaches are closed and aquatic life is affected.

The question facing the teams: How do we protect our local rivers from polluted storm water?

The top four undergraduate and three graduate teams have been selected by judges from Environment and Climate Change Canada, the City of Ottawa and Carleton faculty members. They will present their innovative projects for a chance to win one of the three prizes awarded in each stream. The first-place winner will be awarded $7,500, second place will receive $2,500 and $1,500 will be awarded to the third-place team.

CU75 POPS: Water challenge takes place as part of FPA Research Month and Carleton's 75th anniversary year.
