WASHINGTON, D.C. - December 1, 2014 (www.waternewswire.com) One day before the controversial, climate science-denying American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) kicks off its national conference for state and federal lawmakers, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) will detail the full scope of ALEC's new pro-pollution agenda, which includes abolishing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and using state legislatures to undermine clean air and water protections. The phone-based news conference with full Q &A will take place at 12:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.
The ALEC conference is part of a major new push to roll back environmental standards in the United States. Though much attention has been focused on planned attacks by the new Congress, NRDC will caution that a significant, parallel drive is also underway in state capitals across the nation. NRDC will discuss the anti-environmental agenda of the ALEC States & Nation Policy Summit, which takes place December 3-5 in Washington, D.C. at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill.
During the same news event, a group sign-on letter from 111 leading national and grassroots organizations will be made available. The letter urges state lawmakers not to be duped into supporting the extremist ALEC agenda on environmental matters.
News event speakers will include:
